About

The Los Arcos Aqueduct, also known as the Aqueduct of Algeciras, is one of the most important structures built in the city in its first two hundred years of existence. As the city steadily grew, public fountains had to be built, using water from the Río de la Miel transported by the aqueduct.

The work, which began its construction in 1777 and finished in 1783, had two sections: the furthest away section was in the Quarter of El Cobre (known as Los Arcos de El Cobre), and section which was nearer in the Quarter of La Bajadilla, very little of which still remains today.

The El Cobre section has been restored and adapted to the urban landscape as a green area.
