About
The monumental wealth of Malaga is mainly manifested in its Cathedral dedicated to the Incarnation, it is one of the main jewels of the Spanish Renaissance.
Its construction, following plans by Diego de Siloé, covers from the middle of the sixteenth century to the end of the eighteenth century, the date on which, by royal order, the stoppage of the works was ordered.
The Cathedral of Malaga perfectly combines various architectural styles: Gothic in its floor plan, Renaissance in its elevation and chancel, and Baroque in its main façade and in the decoration of its roofs. Among his works of art, the Choir Stalls, by Pedro de Mena, stands out.
The north tower rises to 87 meters high, being the second tallest cathedral in Andalusia, behind the Giralda in Seville. The south tower is unfinished. This condition gives the Cathedral of Malaga the nickname of 'La Manquita'.
