Erizada

About

La Erizada is one of the translational gastronomic festivals of Cádiz around the Carnival organized by the Federation of Peñas and Caleteras Entities.

As every year, the Erizada is held in the heart of the Barrio de la Viña, a carnival neighborhood par excellence and the origin of many of the groups.

The street of La Palma, undoubtedly the most sung in the carnival with the Playa de la Caleta in the background, is filled with people who are impatiently waiting for the start of the group contest.

As happened with the Ostionada, the success of the first editions forced the gastronomic event itself to change its location. In 1980, the headquarters of the El Erizo peña was the stage for the Erizada, but the influx of public was such that it forced the organizers to take it out to the street to have more space.

What is the hedgehog?

The sea urchin is a shellfish covered in barbs. It is opened with a knife and eaten raw. Only its reddish flesh is used, which must be done with great care so as not to take a pick to accompany it. Its flavor is intense and tasty.

It is planned to distribute around 600 kg of sea urchins, 60 liters of chamomile and 400 liters of Cruzcampo beer for free.
